App State Brew 1/12: Rock The Vote
Former App State Standouts Coakley, Huntley Need Your Votes!

Good morning, App State Fam. We always talk about the strength of the App State fam.
Now, it’s time to show it! Two of our own need some love!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.

🟡 And much more
🔼 Rock The Vote. Two App State greats need your vote!
Dexter Coakley, a Hall of Fame linebacker at App State from 1993-96, has been named a finalist for the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2025.
A native of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and graduate of Wando High School, Coakley has his No. 32 jersey retired in Boone. He was a three-time first-team All-American and a two-time winner of the Buck Buchanan Award that recognizes the best FCS/I-AA defender in college football.
CJ Huntley, who is averaging 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game with the Valley Suns, is up for a spot in the NBA GLeague Next Up Game.
The game is part of NBA All-Star Weekend, which is set for Feb. 13-15 in Los Angeles.
🔼 Dialing Long Distance. We hope the App State Women’s Basketball program has a good phone plan because it was dialing long distance at a near record pace.
In a dominant 82-59 home win over Southern Miss, the Mountaineers came within one of matching both the program's team and individual single-game 3-point records.
App State netted 14 3-pointers, one shy of the school record (15). Sophomore Jayden McBride's hot shooting from beyond the arc brought her within one of the program's individual single-game 3-point record as she downed six buckets on seven attempts.
McBride netted a career and season high 26 points, surpassing her previous high of 18 points, which she set in 2024. The Erie, Pa. native accounted for six of App State's 14 triples in addition to grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. Senior Emma Smith notched her second double-double of the season with 17 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, matching her career-high in the rebounds category for a fifth time.
🔼 Off And Running. Now that’s how you start a new year.
In the first meet of the 2026 calendar year, the App State women's track and field team rounded out competition at the UNC Asheville Collegiate Opener at Tryon International with nine first-place finishes this past weekend.
The Mountaineers also went 1-2-3 in four different events at the meet.

In our first episode of 2026, we chat with Doug Gillin to discuss the transition of App State football into the new year and the season of the transfer portal, plus review the key priorities for App State Athletics.

Jaylen McBride drilled a career-high six 3-pointers in Saturday’s win over Southern Miss, which was just one shy of the program record for three-pointers in a game.
Six different Mountaineers have hit seven 3-pointers in a game. Who was the last to achieve the feat?
Got a guess?
