Mountaineers Sweep Sun Belt Hoops Matchups

Good morning, Mountaineers. Stuck inside with no place to go?
Don’t worry, after this weekend, we’ve got plenty of highlights for you to rewatch over and over!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
❄️ WINter Wonderland
🏈 Welcome To The Rock
👟 Wrecking Records
🟡 And much more
🔼 No Place Like Home. With the weather forcing back-to-back games for the App State men’s hoops team, the Mountaineers used a stifling defensive effort to cap off their four-game homestand with a victory, topping ULM 59-43 on Friday afternoon.
App State wrapped up their homestand, winning three of four and move to 6-4, just a game back from second place in the Sun Belt standings.
Defensively, the Mountaineers held ULM to just 13 field goals in the game and grabbed 56 rebounds in the contest.
Michael Marcus Jr. and Luke Wilson paced App State's offense as both scored a team-best 14 points and tallied a double-double. Marcus Jr. barely edged out Wilson for the team lead in rebounding with 14, but the two combined for 26 rebounds, with 10 of them coming on the offensive end. .
🔼 Welcome To The Rock. Last week, the App State Football program unveiled 35 new faces arriving in the Boone from the transfer portal.
Now that group has a few new coaches leading the way as the Mountaineers announced three coaching hires over the weekend.
Justin Harper (wide receivers coach), Tyler Zielenske (special teams coordinator) and Tyler Kelley (running backs coach) and Antonio James (defensive line coach) all officially joined the sidelines at the Rock

🔼 Finishing Strong. The App State women’s basketball team finished a tough road stretch with a dominant effort on Friday, defeating Louisiana, 68-48.
Grabbing the lead from the start, the Mountaineers put the game away late with a 17-6 advantage in the final quarter to put the exclamation point on the performance.
Leading the way was Daisia Mitchell, who finished with 17 points, including three 3-pointers and three steals. Freshman Addie Biel added 14 points, while veteran Emma Smith nearly notched a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
🔼 Wrecking Records. While the weather outside may be getting colder and colder, that didn’t stop the App State women’s track & field squad from heating up the track at this past weekend’s Hokie Invitational.
Highlighting the performances were freshman Josie Jackson and junior Jayla Adams, who both set program records on the weekend.
Jackson broke App State’s women’s 1,000-meter record with a personal best of 2:52.62, while Adams etched her name atop the women’s 300-meter list with a time of 38.42.
🔼 Mat Madness. The App State Wrestling squad hit the mats in Boone for just the second time this calendar year, hosting the Appalachian Open on Saturday.
Seven Mountaineers earned top-3 finishes, highlighted by redshirt junior Kaden Keiser, who finished 3-0 at 149 pounds.

App State held ULM to just 43 points on Friday, matching the mark for the fewest points allowed against a Division I opponent in the Kerns era.
