Good morning, Mountaineers. Next season can’t get here fast enough!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
🏀 Double Dose Of Ws
🎾 Super Sav
🥎 Preseason Praise
🟡 And much more
🔼 Three Of A Kind. With the App State Men's Basketball team clinging to a one-point lead with 6:47 to play in regulation, the Mountaineers put together a quick 9-3 run to grab a seven-point lead and secure their third straight victory, taking down Southern Miss, 70-63.
App State was stout defensively against the Golden Eagles, holding them to just 36.2 percent clip from the field. It marks the third straight contest that App State has held its opponent below 40 percent from the field.
Jalen Tot's barrage from deep helped him post a team-high 19 points on Thursday, highlighted by five made threes. Kasen Jennings was right behind Tot with 18 points, with most of his damage coming from the free-throw line, as he went 8-8 from the stripe.
🔼 What Do You Say We Do It Again? Returning to its home court for the first time in nearly three weeks, the App State women’s basketball team open up a back-to-back with a gritty 60-57 win over South Alabama on Thursday night.
The Mountaineers will immediately set their sights on ULM, as their game against the Warhawks, originally scheduled for Saturday, has shifted to Friday at 4 p.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center.
Junior Daisia Mitchell and senior Emma Smith were the Mountaineers' top scorers, netting 17 points and 15 points, respectively. The game marked Smith's sixth consecutive game in double figures as well as Mitchell's 13th this winter.
The Mountaineers shot 42.9% from beyond the arc and 42.2% from the field while holding the Jaguars to 20.0% from the arc.
🔼 Super Sav. After a highlight reel fall season, App State Tennis standout Savannah Dada-Mascoll continued her outstanding play to open up the spring season this past week.
On Wednesday, she was announced as the Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after she picked up her first win of the spring season, defeating All-American Özlem Uslu of Virginia Tech in a three-set battle, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
Dada-Mascoll, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation, and her teammates host their first home match this afternoon at 2 pm against UNC Asheville at the Deer Valley Athletic Club.
🔼 Preseason Praise. We are just a week away from the return of App State Softball as first pitch in Wilmington, NC is set for next Friday.
This week, a pair of Mountaineers earned some preseason praise with Makayla McClain and Grace Barrett both being named to the 15-player Preseason All-Sun Belt team.
This marks the first time that two App State players have received Preseason All-Sun Belt recognition.

After arriving in Boone prior to this season after three years at Denver, senior guard Emma Smith is hitting her stride with the App State women’s basketball program.
With 15 points in last night’s win over South Alabama, Smith has now scored in double-figures in six straight games.
Prior to the current streak, how many times did Smith score in double-figures in her first 14 games at App State?
Got a guess?
