✌️ Preseason Praise
🟡 And much more

🔼 Under The Lights. For a second straight week, App State Football will be in the national spotlight as the Mountaineers welcome Sun Belt Conference rival James Madison to Kidd Brewer Stadium for a Thursday night showdown.

Coming off a thrilling 35-32 road victory over Coastal Carolina, App State will look to build momentum and secure another important conference win in front of a sold-out crowd at The Rock.

The Mountaineers have won two of the last three matchups against the Dukes, including a 34-20 victory in 2024.

Kickoff tomorrow night is set for 7 p.m. on ESPNU.

🔼 Another Chapter Added. App State Football is adding another chapter to its rivalry series with East Carolina, and this time they're going back to Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.

This week, the Charlotte Sports Foundation, App State and ECU announced that the Mountaineers and Pirates will meet again in Charlotte on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2029.

App State holds an overall lead of 23-12 in the series, which dates back to 1932. They squared off six times in the 1930s, all 10 years in the 1950s and eight times in the 1970s.

🔼 Runnin’ Wild. App State running back Jaquari Lewis was named the Sun Belt Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after exploding for four touchdowns in the Mountaineers' 35-32 win at Coastal Carolina.

A sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lewis became the third App State back to score four rushing touchdowns in a game during the program's FBS era, rushing for a season-high 85 yards on 13 carries and adding a pair of catches for 22 yards.

Lewis' four scores in the back-and-forth contest tied the game at 7-7, gave App State a 14-7 lead, pulled the Mountaineers to within three at 24-21, and regained the lead at 28-24.

🔼 Preseason Praise. We are less than two weeks away from tip-off of the 2026-27 season for App State Women’s Basketball.

This week, seniors Daisia Mitchell and Joi Williams earned spots on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team, with Mitchell securing first-team honors and Williams earning second-team selection.

Mitchell returns to the Mountaineers following a breakout junior campaign in which she finished second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) and rebounding (3.9 rpg) across 30 games, starting 29. Williams joins App State after a standout career at Radford, where she earned All-Big South First Team recognition in back-to-back seasons (2025, 2026).

🔼 Super Soph. Following a weekend that featured four goals and the team's fifth shutout of the season, Sophia Baxter was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The honor is Baxter's first MAC Defensive Player of the Week selection of the 2026 season after she earned the award four times during her 2025 campaign.

🔼 Tackling Machine. #AppStateNFL standout Akeem Davis-Gaither delivered yet another strong performance this past weekend, piling up nine tackles in the Colts’ home matchup with Tennessee.

Davis-Gaither has racked up seven or more tackles in every game this season and his 53 total tackles currently rank as the ninth-most in the league.

Elsewhere around the league, several App State alums contributed to their teams during Sunday's action. D'Marco Jackson was part of the Chicago Bears' defense as Chicago earned a 31-23 road victory over the Atlanta Falcons, while veteran punter Sam Martin and the Carolina Panthers celebrated a 25-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Former App State offensive lineman Ryan Neuzil was also with Atlanta for its matchup against Chicago.

How many times did Daisia Mitchell reach double-figures last season with App State Women’s Basketball?
