🔼 Two-For-One Special. After a thrilling 34-31 overtime win over previously unbeaten JMU last week, a pair of App State players earned Sun Belt Conference weekly accolades. Linebacker Colton Phares was named Defensive Player of the Week, and kicker James London earned Special Teams Player of the Week.
Against JMU's highly ranked offense, Phares led all players with a career-high 13 tackles, including a TFL, and broke up a pass. But his most impactful play was a leaping interception with just over six minutes remaining in regulation that he returned 21 yards to set up a short go-ahead touchdown drive for the Mountaineers' first lead of the game.
App State needed all 14 of London's points to knock off the Dukes. The senior from Miami, Fla., made all four of his field goal attempts, capped by the game-winning 40-yarder in OT.
🔼 Title Defenders. App State Cross Country will look to continue their dominance of the Sun Belt Conference as they head to the 2026 Sun Belt Cross Country Championships on Friday in Foley, Alabama.
The Mountaineers enter the championship meet with high expectations after sweeping both the men's and women's team titles in each of the past two seasons.
The men's 8K race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by the women's 5K race at 10:15 a.m. ET.
Both races will stream live on ESPN+ as the Mountaineers seek to extend their impressive run of success on the conference stage.
