Mountaineers Thrill Local School Kids With Dominating Win Over Norfolk State

Good morning, Mountaineers. Is there anything better than this? We think not.
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
🏀 Matinee Magic
🏐 The Pick Is In
🏈 The Leg
🟡 And much more
As we head into the Thanksgiving break, Director of Athletics Doug Gillin sits down to update the App State Family.
🔼 Matinee Magic. With thousands of screaming school kids in the crowd, the App State Women’s Basketball squad won for the third time in the past four games in a decisive 66-38 defeat of Norfolk State on Education Day at the Holmes Convocation Center.
Junior Daisia Mitchell had a career-high 21 points, including three 3-pointers, five rebounds and three assists to pace the offensive attack for the Mountaineers. Sophomore Feryal Defne Atli also had a career day, pouring in 17 points and grabbing four rebounds.
Defensively, App State racked up 11 steals and limited Norfolk State to just 26.1-percent from the field in the contest.
🔼 The Pick Is In. Monday, November 24th will be a day that App State Volleyball’s Maya Winterhoff will never forget.
On Monday, the Charlottesville, Va., native became App State’s first draftee into Major League Volleyball and the only draftee from the Sun Belt this year when she was selected 20th overall by the Columbus Fury.
Over the course of her collegiate career, she collected 10 regular season all-tournament nods, four tournament MVP honors, four All-Sun Belt accolades, a 2024 AVCA Regional Honorable Mention honor and the program's first SBC Freshman of the Year honor.
The Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) and Major League Volleyball, both established in 2024, announced their unification into a singular league, MLV, on Aug. 5, 2025. Eight teams across the country currently make up the league, with expansion planned for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

🔼 High Five! App State Tennis star Savannah Dada-Mascoll's record-setting fall has landed her at No. 5 in the updated national singles rankings released this week by the ITA.
Dada-Mascoll is the highest-ranked player in App State Tennis history. Since the ITA began its current ranking system, the previous high ranking belonged to Sasha Pisareva, who landed at No. 48 during the 2019-20 season.
🔼 The Leg. App State Football punter Ian Ratliff has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week after he delivered a fourth-quarter punt of 70 yards to the 1-yard line to cap a strong performance in a 26-24 win against Marshall.
Ratliff punted six times for a 47.7-yard average, with two kicks inside the 20 and a net average of 46.7 yards. He also had punts of 54, 48 and 48 yards result in fair catches and was the holder for a successful field goal unit that pushed App State in front on a kick with 2:02 remaining in the contest.
🔼 Connect Four. With 10 entries advancing to title matches, App State Wrestling produced four champions at the Mountaineer Open on Sunday in Varsity Gym.
Stephan Monchery (heavyweight), Tomas Brooker (184 pounds), Kaden Keiser (149) and Cooper Foster (125) secured titles.
App State's other finalists were Colby McBride (also at 125), Aldo Hernandez (141), Jeremiah Price (157), Anthony Conetta (165), Colt Campbell (174) and Logan Eller (197).

In her four seasons at App State, how many career kills did Maya Winterhoff rack up with the Mountaineers?
