App State Brew 12/10: Walking In A Winter Wonderland

Mountaineers Back To Work, Prepping For Birmingham Bowl

Good morning, Mountaineers. Is there anything better than a snow-covered Rock?

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.

🏈 Prep Work
🏑 Region’s Best
🤼 Weekend Work
🟡 And much more

🔼 Prep Work. After accepting a bowl bid for ninth time in 11 seasons, the App State Football program returned to work this week in preparation for the JLab Birmingham Bowl later this month.

The game, held at Protective Stadium, the four-year old home to UAB Football in downtown Birmingham, will kick off at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) and air on ESPN.

🔼 Region’s Best. Let’s add some more lines to their resumes.

This week, App State Field Hockey standouts Lise Boekaar and Sophia Baxter were both named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) South Region Team. Boekaar earned first-team honors, while Baxter secured a spot on the second team.

The honors follow an impressive 2025 season from both players, who ended the year as the team's leading goal scorers. Both played in every game and helped propel the Mountaineers to their first national ranking in program history after defeating then-No. 18 James Madison on Sept. 28. Baxter and Boekaar both scored in the contest, with Boekaar netting the game-winning goal in overtime to complete the upset.

🔼 Playoff Push. As the NFL season hits the home stretch, a pair trio of #AppStateNFL standouts find themselves right in the playoff push.

D’Marco Jackson and the Chicago Bears currently hold the final spot in the NFC playoffs and are just half a game behind the Packers for the top spot in the NFC North.

Nick Hampton and the Los Angeles Rams sit atop the NFC playoff picture and will look to lock in the best record in the conference in the coming weeks.

Sam Martin and the Carolina Panthers enter the final month tied at the top of the NFC South with a chance to bring home the team’s first division title since 2015.

🔼 Weekend Work. App State had five wrestlers place in the top six of their weight classes at the Patriot Open, highlighted by Anthony Conetta's third-place finish at 165 pounds and Logan Eller's 4-1 record at 197 pounds.

Conetta went 3-1 on the weekend. , following an 11-8 semifinal loss with an 8-0 major decision over Rider's Giovanni Alejandro in the third-place match.

App State's other top-six placers were Colt Campbell (fourth at 174 pounds), unattached Brayden Fahrbach (fourth at 149 pounds), Eller (fifth at 197) and unattached Nick Grizales (sixth at 165 pounds).

Lise Boekaar had a record-setting season with the App State Field Hockey program, becoming the program’s career assists leader with 34 and set a single-season record with how many assists this fall?
