Mountaineers Go Wire-To-Wire For Win Over East Carolina

Good morning, Mountaineers. We couldn’t agree more!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
🏀 Starting Fast
🗓️ The Spring Slates
🤼 Mat Master
🟡 And much more
🔼 Starting Fast. In the first meeting between the App State men's basketball team and the ECU Pirates since 2019, the Mountaineers jumped out to an 11-0 lead through the first five minutes of the game, and held firm despite a second-half comeback attempt to post a wire-to-wire 67-54 road win in Greenville on Thursday night.
The Mountaineers' (defense was the story on Thursday as they held the Pirates (3-7) to just 54 points, the fewest the Mountaineers have allowed to a Division I opponent this season.
Kasen Jennings, Alonzo Dodd and Luke Wilson each provided major contributions in the win on Thursday, as the trio combined for 51 points. Jennings paced the Mountaineers with 20 points, his fourth 20-point game of the season, and Dodd provided his best game of the season with a season-best 17 points. Wilson was all over the floor on both sides of the ball, posting his second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The redshirt sophomore was a force on the offensive glass, grabbing seven offensive rebounds while also blocking a career-best four shots on defense.
🔼 Mat Master. App State Wrestling brought home SoCon Wrestler of the Week honors for the second straight week.
Following Jarvis Little’s accolade last week, Kaden Keiser earned the distinction this week for the Mountaineers.
Keiser's 2-2 record in Las Vegas included a major decision against a ranked opponent. Keiser won 14-6 against No. 33 Paul Kelly from Cal Baptist and also won an 8-6 decision against Edinboro's Ryan Michaels. His two losses were against wrestlers ranked No. 14 and No. 24 in the country.
🔼 The Spring Slates. The winter months may be out in full force, but before we know it, the spring season will be upon us.
This week, the App State Baseball and Softball programs unveiled their full slates for the upcoming seasons.
🔼 Prep Work. After accepting a bowl bid for ninth time in 11 seasons, the App State Football program is beginning preparations for the JLab Birmingham Bowl later this month.
The game, held at Protective Stadium, the four-year old home to UAB Football in downtown Birmingham, will kick off at 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET) on Monday, December 29 and air on ESPN.

As we mentioned, the 54 points by East Carolina was the fewest by a Division I opponent this season.
When was the last time the Mountaineers held a Division I opponent to 54 points or less?
