App State Brew 2/13: Alone At The Top

Plus: Happy baseball season!

Good morning, App State Fam. App State is alone at the top! The Mountaineers moved into sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference with an 81-65 wire-to-wire victory over Georgia Southern in Statesboro, extending their winning streak to seven games and improving to 18-9 overall and 10-4 in conference play.

Kasen Jennings stole the show with his second 30-point performance in 10 days, scoring 31 points on 9-of-18 shooting and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line to become the first Mountaineer since 2018-19 to post multiple 30-point games in a season, while Michael Marcus Jr. added a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double and Alonzo Dodd contributed 18 points in the win.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.

⚾ Happy Baseball Season!
🎾 On Court
🟡 And much more

🔼 Happy Baseball Season! It’s time for the opening pitch on a new edition of App State baseball! The squad will open its 2026 campaign with a three-game series against Canisius at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. The Mountaineers return 19 players from last year’s squad that reached the Sun Belt tournament for five straight seasons, while adding 18 newcomers, including four freshmen. Preseason All-Sun Belt selections Kameron Miller and Joseph Zamora headline a lineup that ranked third in the conference in batting average last season.

🔼 Call It A Comeback. App State Softball stayed perfect at 5-0 with a gutsy 7-6 nine-inning victory over UNCG to open The Spiro Classic on Thursday, rallying from three-run deficits twice before Macy Hamby delivered a walk-off single in the ninth. The Mountaineers erased a 5-2 deficit in the sixth inning with home runs from Madison McIntyre (two-run shot) and freshman Madison Fletcher (her first career homer), then Hamby capped her day by scoring Julia Girk for the game-winner. Sophie Moshos earned the win with an eight-inning relief performance.

🔼 On Court. App State women's tennis (2-2) travels to Georgia for back-to-back matches against Kennesaw State today and Mercer tomorrow, with both contests starting at 11 a.m. The Mountaineers are riding high after consecutive victories over UNC Asheville and Western Carolina, dropping just one singles match combined across the two duals. Savannah Dada-Mascoll leads the squad as the nation's No. 6-ranked player following a historic fall campaign that saw her defeat nine ranked opponents, including then-No. 1 DJ Bennett, appear in the NCAA singles quarterfinals, and earn All-American honors.

Who was the last Appalachian State player before Kasen Jennings to post multiple 30-point games in the same season?
