Jennings' Career Day Leads Mountaineers To Huge Road Win Over Reigning Sun Belt Champs

Good morning, Mountaineers. If the old school SportsCenter crew was handling the highlights from Saturday’s App State game, they would’ve described Kasen Jennings “En Fuego.”

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.

🟡 And much more
🔼 Special K. Facing the reigning Sun Belt Champs on the road, the App State men’s basketball team put together one of their most complete performances of the year, routing Troy, 66-44, on Saturday to pull within a half-game of first place.
Leading the way with a 33-pointer barrage was Kasen Jennings, who knocked down a career-best seven 3-pointers in the contest. He got things started with 16-point first half and one-upped himself with a 17-point second half.
It wasn't just Jennings that helped App State down the Trojans. The Mountaineers' defense held Troy 41 points below their season scoring average (85.5).
Alonzo Dodd flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while Eren Banks came off the bench to knock down three 3-pointers and dish out two assists.
🔼 Over The Hump. And the unbeaten streak lives on for App State Wrestling, who went on a business trip to Campbell on Friday, defeating the Camels, 29-12, to move to 3-0 in SoCon action.
The Mountaineers prevailed at seven of 10 weights to set up a showdown of league co-leaders in Boone. Bellarmine, who is also 3-0 in the league, won at Davidson on Friday night after arriving in North Carolina from Louisville and is currently scheduled to face App State at 3 p.m. this afternoon in Varsity Gym.
The intense rivalry between App State and Campbell through the last decade has been accompanied by a lot of dramatic duals, as the two programs have had a hand in the last nine SoCon regular season titles: four outright championships for the Mountaineers, three outright championships by the Camels and a pair of shared titles, including a 2025 tie atop the league standings.
🔼 Home Sweet Home. Playing in Boone for the first time this spring, the App State Tennis squad thrilled the home crowd with a dominant 7-0 win over UNC Asheville on Friday.
It was a match of firsts for the Mountaineers, as a sweep of all three doubles matches gave all six players their first doubles victories of the season. Taya Powell, Naledi Manyube, Ruby Broadbent and Sreenidhi Balaji each picked up their first singles wins of the season.
For Balaji, the straight-set victory marked the first of her collegiate career.
🔼 Another Addition. Late last week, another new face officially joined the App State Football staff as Coach Loggains announced Aaron Fierbaugh as the new safeties coach for the Mountaineers.
He arrives in Boone after spending the past three seasons coaching the safeties at Liberty. His previous stops include Coastal Carolina, South Carolina and Auburn.

With his performance on Saturday against Troy, Kasen Jennings became the first Mountaineer to score 30-plus points in a game since which former App State standout in 2021?
