In the latest edition of Nothin’ But An App State Podcast, Bret and Adam are back to give their assessment of the new 2026 football schedule and recap the wrestling team's SoCon tournament championship.
Plus, Bret chats with one of the squad's three NCAA qualifiers as Aldo Hernandez joins the show.
🔼 Home Sweet Home. With just four home games through the first six weeks of the season, the App State Softball squad is ready for the friendly confines of Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
The Mountaineers kick off a seven-game homestand tonight when NC Central rolls into town for a 6 pm showdown on Student Appreciation Night.
App State is currently ranked #15 in Softball America’s Top-25 Mid-Major Poll and #25 in D1Softball’s Top-25 Mid-Major Poll.
🔼 Cleveland Bound. App State Wrestling followed another SoCon regular season championship with yet another conference tournament title. The final phase of the 2025-26 season: sending three individual SoCon champs to the NCAA Championships at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
The double-elimination event begins tomorrow at noon, with Aldo Hernandez (141 pounds) immediately on the mat for a pigtail round match that pits a No. 32 seed against a No. 33 seed, feeding into a matchup against the No. 1 seed in the next round.
Late in the opening session, at two of the three heaviest weight classes, Tomas Brooker (No. 21 seed at 184 pounds) and Stephan Monchery (No. 23 seed at heavyweight) will take the mat.
In the last seven seasons alone under the direction of head coach JohnMark Bentley, the Mountaineers have had NCAA qualifiers at all 10 weights and 35 total NCAA qualifiers.
🔼 Back For More. After collecting his first career Super Bowl ring, #AppStateNFL’s Shemar Jean-Charles is back for more with the Seattle Seahawks.
Jean-Charles spent this past year on the Seahawks’ practice squad and this week, resigned to join Seattle for next season.
In his five years in the NFL, Jean-Charles has played in 34 games, racked up 29 tackles and grabbed one interception.
Joining the re-signing party this week was Sam Martin, who is back with the Carolina Panthers for two more years after he inked a new deal this week.

App State Softball enters this seven-game stretch with a perfect 4-0 record at home this spring.
