Huntley Becomes First Mountaineer To Play In NBA Game Since 1952

🔼 Earned His Shot. For the first time since 1952, a Mountaineer appeared in an NBA game when App State Men’s Basketball alum CJ Huntley made his NBA debut on Sunday night with the Phoenix Suns.
Huntley scored his first NBA points with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter of the Suns' 120-98 win over the Toronto Raptors.
A five-year player at App State from 2020-25, Huntley is the first App State player since Belus Smawley (played at App State from 1939-41) to appear in an NBA game. Smawley played for three seasons with the Baltimore Bullets and the Syracuse Nationals from 1949-52, appearing in 132 career games.
🔼 Strap ‘Em Up. The App State Football squad strapped on the pads for the first time this week as the Mountaineers build up their spring schedule to the annual “Battle at The Rock” on April 18th.
There will be a Pregame FanFest from 10 a.m. until kickoff in the Mark E. Harrill Basketball Practice Facility beyond the southeast corner of Kidd Brewer Stadium featuring fun family activities, including a Kid Zone with bounce houses and more.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on that Saturday, and admission will be free. Fans should register for their free ticket by April 14 to be entered for a chance to toss the coin prior to kickoff.
App State students will have several special opportunities to engage and win prizes. More details will be communicated with student groups later.
🔼 Three Of A Kind. Senior Herman Huus had a steady showing at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate this week in South Carolina.
Huus fired three consecutive rounds under par to pace the App State men’s golf team at the event. Finishing with a 4-under for the three rounds, the Finstadjordet, Norway earned a top-16 showing.
