🟡 And much more
🔼 Never Say Die. With alumni, family and friends in attendance, the App State Softball team provided them with an epic comeback on Sunday afternoon to take the three-game Sun Belt series from visiting Georgia State in dramatic fashion.
Facing a seven-run deficit entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mountaineers softball team scored eight unanswered runs against Georgia State to claim a walk-off 8-7 victory on Sunday at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
The Mountaineers tied the score at seven apiece thanks to a long three-run home run by Makayla McClain in the seventh inning, and won after McClain scampered home from second on an infield hit by Grace Barrett with two outs in the ninth inning.
🔼 Springin’ Into Action. App State alum Jeffrey Springs started his ninth MLB season with a strong start against the defending American League champions.
Facing the Toronto Blue Jays, Springs tossed 5.1 innings on Saturday, allowing just two earned runs and scattering five hits for the Oakland Athletics.
Springs is now just one strikeout away from reaching 500 career strikeouts in the big leagues.
🔼 Soaring To New Heights. Junior Matthew Gray is taking things up a level, literally.
Gray had a career weekend at the Raleigh Relays with the App State track & field squad. He broke his personal best, set a new school record, and broke the meet record with a pole vault of 17-11.25, placing him top 10 in the NCAA this outdoor season.
In addition, six other Mountaineers earned spots in the top-10 all-time in school history on the weekend.

With four home runs on the weekend, the Mountaineers set a new all-time single-season HR team record with 59, which they accomplished in just 33 games.
What was the previous single-season record?
