McClain Sets New Single-Season Record For Home Runs

🔼 Mighty Mak. It didn’t take long for Makayla McClain to etch her name in the App State Softball record on Thursday night.
On a 3-2 pitch in the top of the first inning against Marshall, McClain launched her 18th home run of the season over the center field wall.
The home run set the Mountaineers' new single-season home run record, surpassing Katie Boyd's record of 17 set in 2009. McClain rounded the bases for the 18th time and touched home as the program's new single-season home run leader.
🔼 Community Connections. Last week, our App State Field Hockey program made a difference in the local community.
The squad spent time at Bethel Elementary School reading and connecting with local kids. Great job Mountaineers!
🔼 Nation’s Finest. In the midst of a historic season, senior Makayla McClain finds herself among the nation’s best.
McClain is currently hitting .455 (third in Sun Belt) with a Sun Belt-leading 17 HRs, 51 runs and 43 RBIs.
🔼 Mountaineers In The Minors. A pair of App State alums got their minor league assignments this week for the upcoming 2026 season.
Austin St. Laurent will begin the season with the High-A Everett AquaSox in the Seattle Mariners organization, while Jackson Steensma will begin with the Inland Empire 66ers at Single-A for the Mariners.
In his two minor league seasons in the Mariners organization (126 games), Austin St. Laurent has racked up 116 hits.
