Mountaineers Blast Their Way To Two Wins On The Diamond

Good morning, App State Fam. Offseason? What offseason?
Our Mountaineers never stop working!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
⚾️ The Hit Parade
🥎 Runnin’ Wild
🏀 Welcome Home
🟡 And much more
🔼 Runnin’ Wild. The App State softball team scored at least two runs in every inning on its way to exploding for a single-game record-tying 20 runs in their 20-3 victory in five innings over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday.
On top of tying the single-game record, App State also set its single-season runs scored record (277) in the second inning, and Makayla McClain broke her own record for runs scored in a season with her 56th in the fourth inning.
After it took the lead in the bottom of the first, App State sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning and tallied five hits to take a nine-run lead. Macy Hamby provided her first of two home runs in the second, a three-run home run the opposite way, for the biggest jolt of the frame.
🔼 The Hit Parade. Steven Smith belted the first pitch of the ballgame over the left field fence and the App State baseball team never looked back on its way to a 18-5 victory over UNC Asheville on Tuesday night.
The Mountaineers set season-highs for runs (18), hits (18) and walks (15), while seven players tallied multi-hit efforts, sweeping the season series from the Bulldogs.
Smith finished the contest going 4-for-6 with two home runs, three RBIs and a career-high five runs scored. Tommy Walker belted a grand slam in the fourth inning and finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs on the day.
🔼 Welcome Home. The newest member of the App State men’s basketball program has officially signed on.
Ben Kopetzki is a 6-0, 185-pound shooting guard from Division II Concordia-St. Paul, who arrives in Boone with one year of eligibility remaining.
The Andover, Minn., native averaged a conference-leading 21.1 ppg, while knocking down 163 3-pointers over the past three seasons for the Bears.
🔼 Fightin’ At The Top. App State Men's Golf traded the lead during a back-and-forth final hour of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing second overall by just two strokes.
Led individually by Herman Huus' tie for seventh place at 1 under, App State posted a 6-over team total (288-283-287—858). When Ben Read (10th place at even par overall) made a par putt on the final hole, the Mountaineers were able to maintain a one-shot lead over third-place Old Dominion and an eight-shot advantage over fourth-place Troy in the 11-team field.

With 20 runs in Tuesday’s dominant home win, the App State softball team set a new program single-season record with 277 runs (with 13 regular games remaining).
