Plus, a couple female athletes made some major headlines this week and the guys give their take on the NCAA basketball tournament expansion news.

🔼 History Maker. App State Women's Golf freshman Zoe Duval made history this week, becoming the program's first NCAA Regional qualifier.

The NCAA announced team and individual participants Wednesday, with the top Division I players from non-qualifying teams in contention for 36 individual spots nationally. In addition to 12 team entries per site, each of the six regionals have six individual participants, and Duval was selected for the Chapel Hill Regional that will be held May 11-13 at the UNC Finley Golf Course.

A native of Cumming, Ga., Duval earned two first-place finishes in her first collegiate season.

🔼 Setting The Standard. Adding to an already decorated resume, App State Tennis phenom Savannah Dada-Mascoll was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Year, becoming the first player in program history to receive the honor.

Dada-Mascoll also earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors in singles and a Second-Team selection in doubles alongside Ruby Broadbent.

The honor for the All-American and five-time Sun Belt Player of the Week follows a 23-1 season at the No. 1 spot. After falling in her season opener against North Carolina, Dada-Mascoll won 23 straight matches and dropped only six sets all season.

🔼 Welcome Home. App State football alumnus and NFL coaching veteran Steve Wilks is returning to his alma mater to join the App State Athletics team, Director of Athletics Doug Gillin.

Wilks has been named Special Assistant to Athletics and will assist in a variety of areas, including fundraising initiatives, capital projects and special events. He will work in close partnership with Gillin, the Mountaineers football program and development staff to help drive strategic revenue growth.

🔼 A Night To Remember. App State celebrated another year of student-athlete and athletic achievements with the 2026 APPSPY Awards this week.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) organized the event, and awards resulted primarily from accomplishments during the 2025 spring, fall and winter seasons.

In a total of 11 tournaments this year, how many top-five individual finishes did Zoe Duval earn for the Mountaineers?
