On Wednesday, the kickoff times and accompanying network designations for six App State football games in the upcoming 2026 season.
Head coach Dowell Loggains is entering his second season in Boone, and there are 66 newcomers currently on the 2026 roster. That includes 35 transfer portal newcomers from NCAA institutions and 29 December signees.
🔼 The Oregon Trail. The incredible season of Matthew Gray continues.
Gray - the top-ranked pole vaulter in the NCAA and one of the best in the world this year - added another achievement to his growing list this week at the NCAA East First Round when he qualified for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
With a clearance of 5.45m/17-10.5 - tied for the best in the field - he became the third App State athlete in the last four years to punch a ticket to Eugene.
The junior from Bryson City, N.C., is the first men's pole vaulter in program history to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and the second pole vaulter in as many years (Lilly Nichols, 2025). The last time any Mountaineer advanced to NCAA Outdoors on the men's side was 2015.
🔼 Class Acts. App State student-athletes extended their streak to 28 consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA above 3.0 thanks to their academic performances during the 2026 spring.
Every program at App State — 17 teams for the purposes of this measurement — finished the spring with a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
The Mountaineers ended the spring with a 3.32 semester GPA for all student-athletes, contributing to a 3.36 cumulative GPA for all student-athletes. It's the highest semester GPA since the COVID-impacted spring of 2020.
🔼 Battling The Best. Representing Boone RTC, 15 wrestlers from App State will compete Saturday and Sunday in brackets for the U23 Freestyle Nationals at the Spire Institute.
Fans can watch the event live on FloWrestling.com. Brackets and complete results will be available via USA Bracketing.
Last year, Jarvis Little became a USA Wrestling All-American by placing seventh after winning six matches at 65 kg. Joe Fongaro reached the final 24 of the 65 kg bracket.
