App State Brew 6/22: Mountain Strong
Mountaineers Putting Strength On Display This Summer

Good morning, App State Fam. That’s what you call Mountain men!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
📚 Hittin’ The Books
⚾️ Earning His Shot
🙌 Coming Home
🟡 And much more

Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of App State Football this fall. The Mountaineers will
host Maine on September 5 at 3:30 p.m.
75 Days Away. When you have these two in the backfield, the carries are going to pile up.
Led by Armanti Edwards and Kevin Richardson, the 2007 Mountaineers did just that en route to a single-season program record of 7️⃣5️⃣5 rushing attempts during their National Championship run.
The 7️⃣5️⃣5 attempts led to 4,311 yards, which are also a single-season program record.

🔼 Hittin’ The Books. On the field wasn’t the only place the Mountaineers had success this past year.
This past week, five different programs had student-athletes recognized for their hard work in the classroom.
Claire Grenis (field hockey), Sarah Perkins (field hockey), Calista Schwartz (field hockey), Salem Lee (women’s golf), Maria Pinedo (women’s golf), Ona Lukes (women’s golf), Max Cranford (men’s golf), Herman Huus (men’s golf), Anthony Conetta (wrestling), Ruby Broadbent (tennis) and Taya Powell (tennis) all earned CSC Academic All-District Accolades in their respective sports.

🔼 Earning His Shot. After posting a career year this past spring, App State righthander Everette Harris has earned his first shot in the professional ranks.
Last week, Harris stepped onto the mound for his first professional outing, allowing no earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.
In his three seasons with the Mountaineers, Harris made 54 appearances, including a career-high 22 this spring, all out of the bullpen.
🔼 Coming Home. Returning to the High Country, Dr. Parker Leap has been hired as App State's Associate Athletics Director for Sport Psychology and Mental Wellness.
Dr. Leap, who completed a doctoral psychology internship at App State in 2023, rejoins a Sport Psychology team that also includes another full-time counseling and sport psychologist in Dr. Courtney Shields, who is App State's Assistant Director of Sports Psychology and Mental Wellness.
A former collegiate student-athlete himself, Dr. Leap returns to Boone after working at Texas A&M as an athletics psychology postdoctoral fellow and staff psychologist from 2023-26. In those clinical roles, he provided individual counseling and sport psychology services for student-athletes, trained staff and student-athletes in mental health first aid and collaborated across various departments within athletics to prioritize student-athlete wellness.

Bret and Adam are back and are joined by App State alumnus Jeff Merritt, the executive director for the Centennial Authority, which owns the Lenovo Center in Raleigh.
He was right in the thick of the Canes’ run to raising the Stanley Cup and fills us in on all the details from the journey. #DSOTDP
