Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of App State Football this fall. The Mountaineers will
host Maine on September 5 at 3:30 p.m.

68 Days Away. After arriving from Virginia Tech last season, #6️⃣8️⃣ Lance Williams appeared in 10 games for the Mountaineers with a majority of his role being on the special teams unit.

After App State earned a postseason berth, Williams earned his first collegiate start against Georgia Southern.

This spring, the Alcoa, Tenn., native is back and ready to battle for playing time up front for the Mountaineers as the 6-3, 305-pound redshirt junior can play multiple positions on the line.

🔼 Sideline Addition. A young up and coming face has arrived in Boone.

On Friday, App State Men's Basketball added assistant coach Carson Barrett to the staff ahead of the 2026-27 season. After building a championship resumé as a player and graduate assistant at Purdue, Barrett has earned his first full-time coaching position with the Mountaineers.

Barrett spent the last two seasons as a grad assistant for Purdue, where he was responsible for opponent scouting, film breakdown, helping with individual workouts and administrative duties. He helped the Boilermakers make the Sweet 16 in 2024-25, followed by a Big Ten Championship and Elite 8 run this past season. Purdue's 30-9 record last year was the second-best in program history.

🔼 Award Winner. Let’s add a few more awards to the mantle.

App State's award-winning strategic communications staff added more honors this spring, as Bret Strelow was recognized for two stories in the Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest that's conducted by the College Sports Communicators organization.

Strelow's story on App State Wrestling overcoming adversity and tough obstacles during a title-winning season in 2024-25 placed first in the season recap/preview category for District 3, an area that covers the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. His recap of App State Football's dramatic home win against Oregon State in 2025 finished second in the event coverage category.

🔼 Back For More. The MAC-SBC Challenge – a scheduling alliance between the Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt Conference in men’s and women’s basketball – has been extended two additional years through the 2028-29 season.

Twelve MAC men’s and women’s basketball teams will face off against 12 Sun Belt teams in a pair of contests in 2027-28 and 2028-29 with each game being carried on an ESPN platform.

As she gets ready for retirement from an amazing run as App State's Assistant AD for Ticket Operations, we visit with Teresa Eggers for some tremendous stories and memories from time behind the window and on the other end of the phone.

Who did the Mountaineers defeat to earn the program’s first-ever national ranking (#17) last year?
