Good morning, App State Fam. The calendar may read July, but for App State soccer, it felt like Christmas!

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below.
⚾️ Dream Come True
⛳️ Double The Fun
⏱️ Counting Down
🟡 And much more

Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of App State Football this fall. The Mountaineers will
host Maine on September 5 at 3:30 p.m.
5️⃣4️⃣ Days Away. It may have been winding road to get to App State, but when Chase Brice arrived in Boone, he made an immediate impact for the Mountaineers.
After stops at Clemson and Duke, Brice took over the reins at QB for App State in 2021, winning Sun Belt Newcomer of the year that season.
In his two years with the Mountaineers, Brice tossed for 5️⃣4️⃣ touchdowns, becoming just one of six App State QBs to reach 50+ career TD passes.

🔼 Dream Come True. It’s the moment that Gage Peterson had dreamt about every since he was playing baseball in the backyard of his childhood home.
On Sunday, the righthander was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the seventh round of the 2026 MLB Draft.
The 2026 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Peterson becomes the 50th draft pick from App State and the ninth under the leadership of head coach Kermit Smith. He becomes just the sixth player in program history to be drafted in the top seven rounds. The Mountaineers have had at least one player selected in each of the last four drafts.
The transfer from Walters State Community College tied for second in the Sun Belt with 107 strikeouts, the second-most in a season in program history, trailing only Xander Hamilton's 115 in 2023.
He also ranked second in the Sun Belt in wins (8), opponents' batting average (.196) and hits allowed per nine innings (6.35), third in WHIP (1.16) and sixth in ERA (3.28).

🔼 Double The Fun. It may be the summer, but there’s no slowing down for rising sophomore Alisa Pressley on the App State women’s golf team.
Pressley brought home not one piece of hardware, but two recently.
She started by winning the club title at Reunion Country Club outside of Atlanta with a 7-under 65, then followed it up by being part of the title-winning tandem in the GSGA Four-Ball Championship thanks to a final-round 65.
As one sports season comes to an end and with the next one on the horizon, we catch up with director of athletics Doug Gillin.
This conversation covers the highlights from the 2025-2026 season, summer storylines, football scheduling and what to look forward to when the new school year begins.

Gage Peterson became the sixth-highest draft pick in program history with his seventh-round selection by the Nationals on Sunday.
