🎥 App State Athletics: The 2025-26 Year In Review
🔼 Opening Up North. Late last week, the initial matchups for the third year of the MAC-SBC Challenge, with App State Women's Basketball scheduled to open the 2026-27 season at Eastern Michigan on Nov. 2.
The MAC features 12 basketball-playing members, compared to 14 for the Sun Belt. Four Sun Belt teams will not be participating in the November segment of the challenge: the App State men, Southern Miss men, Southern Miss women and Louisiana women.
The App State women will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the nonconference matchup, and fans will be able to catch the action on ESPN+.
🔼 Here To Stay. Coming off the program's first top-20 national ranking, App State Field Hockey head coach Emily Dinsmore signed a contract extension through the 2028 season, Director of Athletics Doug Gillin announced.
In three years under Dinsmore, the Mountaineers have reached new heights, establishing themselves as one of the best programs in the Mid-American Conference and rising as high as No. 17 in the 2025 national rankings.
🔼 Going Global. Before even suiting up for the App State women’s basketball program, incoming forward Feryal Defne Atli is taking her game to the global stage.
Late last week, Atli was selected to be called up to the Turkish U-20 National Team.
This is the second time Atli has been called up to the U20 National team, also getting a call-up in 2024 at just 17 years old.
🔼 Movin’ On Up. App State’s own Makayla McClain is back on the softball diamond.
Last week, McClain was called up to the AUSL’s Texas Volts for her first taste of the professional level.
During her time in Boone, she earned her second consecutive All-Region and All-Sun Belt First-Team accolades after ranking in the top three in the league in batting average (.391), home runs (18) and RBIs (46).

Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of App State Football this fall. The Mountaineers will
host Maine on September 5 at 3:30 p.m.
6️⃣1️⃣ Days Away. Anytime we get to celebrate Armanti Edwards, we’re going to do just that.
One of the best players in program history, Edwards’ Hall of Fame career with the Mountaineers included 4,36️⃣1️⃣ rushing yards, by far the most in program history. He found the endzone 65 times on the ground, the second most in school history.
Edwards had back-to-back seasons of 1,000+ rushing yards, including a single-season program record in 2007 with 1,588.

In her two seasons at App State, how many runs did Makayla McClain drive in?
Got a guess?
