🔼 Kings Of The Queen City. Well, that’s one way to introduce yourself to the new squad.

The Mountaineers had quite a showing in Dowell Loggains’ head coaching debut at App State on Friday night in Charlotte.

New starting quarterback AJ Swann completed 31 of 46 passes for 368 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions to lead a balanced offense in a balanced team effort, as App State posted a 34-11 victory over Charlotte.

Defensive coordinator DJ Smith's group limited the 49ers to three points through three quarters and forced two big turnovers, starting with Ja'Den McBurrows' diving interception that followed Jaden Barnes' 10-yard touchdown reception and contributed to a 10-point outburst in the final 36 seconds of the first half.

🔼 Three Of A Kind. The App State Volleyball program had quite an opening weekend to its 2025 campaign, rallying in a pair of five-set victories Saturday to complete a 3-0 weekend

Highlighted by a career milestone from redshirt senior Addison Heidemann, the Mountaineers posted wins over Mercer (3-0), College of Charleston (3-2) and Eastern Kentucky (3-2).

Senior Maya Winterhoff and sophomores Lou Johnson and MeMe Davis earned spots on the C of C Classic All-Tournament for their efforts on the weekend, with Winterhoff being named the tournament MVP.

🔼 Grand Opening. For the fourth straight season, the App State Field Hockey program rolled to a 2-0 start posting road victories over Towson and Georgetown over the weekend.

The Mountaineers outscored their two opponents 10-2 with senior Lise Boekaar contributing to all 10 of App State’s goals. Boekaar finished with three goals and seven assists in the two wins.

🔼 Off And Running. The App State men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2025 season at home with the Covered Bridge Open on Friday. The men placed second behind only Georgia of the SEC in the team standings, totaling 47 points, while the women placed third overall with 82 points, behind only South Carolina and Georgia.

The men were paced by sophomore Thomas Wlazlowski, who stopped the clock at 18:09.7 for a personal best and seventh-place finish. On the women’s side, sophomore Breanna Budzinski led the Mountaineers with a personal best time of 17:52.6 for a top-15 finish.

LSU transfer AJ Swann had quite a debut in App State’s win over Charlotte on Friday night.
