🔼 All Heart. There’s no doubting the heart of this year’s App State Volleyball squad.

The Mountaineers capped off a weekend trip to Kennesaw State with a thrilling five-set victory over the home squad to move to 7-1 on the season. It marks the fifth five-set win of the season for App State.

Senior Ali Morris led the way with yet another double-double with a team-high 15 kills and 11 digs. Fellow senior Maya Winterhoff also registered a double-double with 10 kills and a career-high 10 blocks (two solo, eight assists).

Redshirt senior Addison Heidemann tallied a team-high 20 assists and eight digs, while junior Maria Conteras made 12 assists and a career-high seven blocks. Sophomore MeMe Davis led the Black and Gold with 14 digs and served up four of App State's nine aces.

🔼 Runnin’ Wild. Facing a loaded field, the App State Cross Country teams posted strong showings at the Virginia Invitational this past weekend.

The men's team placed third with 88 points, while the women finished sixth in the team standings with 141 points.

For a second consecutive race, sophomore Thomas Wlazlowski was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line, clocking an 8K time of 24:58.1 to place 10th. His time was 13 seconds shy of his personal best of 24:45.6.

In the women's 5K, freshman Elizabeth McCart set pace for the Mountaineers, clocking a time of 18:06.1 to improve her personal best by 36 seconds and earn a top-25 finish.

🔼 Opening Act. A new phase of the season is underway for the App State Soccer program.

The Mountaineers opened Sun Belt conference play this past weekend, earning a 1-1 draw against perennial conference contender Old Dominion.

A late goal by the Monarchs was countered by a clutch, free kick score from the Mountaineers’ Kyli Switalski with four minutes remaining in the contest. With time winding down, App State mounted a counterattack, drawing a yellow card from Old Dominion outside the box. Switalski took the set piece after Olivia Simon faked the shot, burying it in the right side of the net for the equalizing goal in the 86th minute for her third goal of the season.

🔼 Road Battles. The soccer program wasn’t the only one (singular to match soccer program) starting conference play this past weekend, (add comma) as the App State Football team hit the road to take on Southern Miss to open Sun Belt action.

After falling behind early, the Mountaineers rolled back in the second half, but the rally came up short with the Golden Eagles holding on for a 38-22 victory.

App State (2-1, 0-1) has a bye next (this instead of next since now we are out of the Sept. 13-14 weekend) weekend before playing two consecutive nonconference games, starting with a Sept. 27 visit to Boise State.

With her double-double performance in Saturday’s win over Kennesaw State, how many career double-doubles does Ali Morris now have for the App State Volleyball program?
