🔼 Late Night Work. Black Saturday turned to Black Sunday thanks to the latest kickoff time in Kidd Brewer Stadium history.
Kickoff for Black Saturday (Under the Lights) was scheduled for 6 p.m., but frequent lightning in the area delayed the start to 9:30 p.m. At 12:32 a.m., the clock ran out on the Mountaineers' fifth victory in five meetings with Charlotte.
Khalil Conley's interception deep in Charlotte territory set up the first of two second-half touchdown passes from Malachi Singleton as the Mountaineers gained separation before holding on for a 26-21 home victory against the 49ers.
The 2019 team that went 13-1 was the last App State squad to start a season 3-0. The Mountaineers have another in-state matchup next weekend, when they face NC State at 7:30 p.m. in Raleigh for an ESPNU contest.
🔼 Legends Forever. On Friday night in the Grandview Ballroom at Kidd Brewer Stadium, six App State legends were forever enshrined as the 2026 App State Athletics Hall of Fame class was formally inducted.
This year's inductees were Kyle Blevins (Wrestling – 2008-12), Hector Crespo (Baseball – 2010-13), John Fitch (Men's Basketball – 1978-82), KT Stovall (Football – 2000-03) and Maryah Sydnor (Women's Basketball – 2011-15).
Chip Sigmon, the head strength and conditioning coach at App State from 1984-90, was also recognized with a Special Service Award.
🔼 Risin’ Up. App State Soccer opened up Sun Belt Conference play in record-setting fashion, earning a tenacious 1-0 home victory over Georgia State on Friday night.
The Mountaineers have not lost in eight straight matches, setting the record for the longest unbeaten streak in program history.
The lone goal of the match game in the 49th minute when Ellie Garrison headed home a corner kick from Hayden Petrick.
🔼 Two-For-One Special. App State Volleyball closed out nonconference play by picking up a pair of victories at the Geri Polvino Invitational in Richmond, Ky.
The Mountaineers rallied from a set down to defeat Tennessee Tech 3-1 in their opener before sweeping Presbyterian 3-0 to cap the Friday sweep. Bella Hutchens powered the attack across both matches, tallying a team-high 31 kills on the day. Setter Raegan Richardson posted 48 total assists, moving within 35 of 2,000 for her career.
Over the course of the tournament, MeMe Davis totaled three kills, 17 assists and 64 digs to earn All-Tournament honors for the second time this season. Delanie Grevengoed also earned her first All-Tournament honor of the season, recording 26 kills, one assist, eight service aces, 14 digs and six blocks.
