Mountaineers Go 5-0 On The Weekend

Good Morning, App State Fam. What’s better than a winning weekend?
How about an UNDEFEATED weekend?
That’s right, our Mountaineers went 5-for-5!
What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!
🏐 Virginia Is For Ws
🏈 No Place Like Home
🏑 Cat Tamers
🟡 And much more!

🔼 Virginia is For Ws. Drive about an hour north and you’ll run into a sign that states, “Virginia is for Lovers.”
This past weekend, Virginia was for Ws for the App State Volleyball program as the Mountaineers won two thrillers at the Cavalier Classic, defeating VCU and Virginia in five-set nailbiters.
Saturday’s victory over Virginia marked the first victory over an ACC foe since 2015 for the Mountaineers.

🔼 Cat Tamers. The App State field hockey team defeated the Davidson Wildcats 7-3 on Sunday in its home opener.
Now sitting at 3-0 on the year, the Mountaineers have yet to trail this season.
Sophia Baxter, Lise Boekaar and Baylie Phillips all scored, propelling the Mountaineers to their third straight win.
Boekaar was a force on offense, tallying four goals and an assist in the victory. The assist pushes her to second all-time in career assists and ties her for sixth in single-season assists with eight.
🔼 No Place Like Home. An exhilarating start and a high-anxiety finish bookended App State Football's home opener in a sold-out Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday.
In head coach Dowell Loggains' first game at The Rock, before a crowd of 34,921, the Mountaineers used a 20-13 win against FCS program Lindenwood to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2019.
App State scored a long touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and held a 14-0 lead after one quarter, but four turnovers kept the Lions within striking distance, and a series of wild plays over the last four minutes enabled Lindenwood to have possession in App State territory with a chance to tie the game or even take the lead.
Defensive back Elijah Mc-Cantos intercepted a fourth-down heave at the App State 16 with less than two minutes left, and one offensive first down sealed a win in which the Mountaineers finished with a 503-216 advantage in total yards, including minus-1 rushing yards from the Lions.
🔼 Three’s Company. Graduate forward Izzi Wood scored two goals in the second half on Sunday to lead App State Soccer to a 3-2 road victory over Longwood to close out non-conference play.
It was the fifth brace of Wood's career, and her 27th and 28th career goals moved her into second place in App State scoring history.

App State improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2019 with a 20-13 win over Lindenwood.
Our radio crew brings you the highlights and analysis, plus interviews with Dowell Loggains, Thomas Davis and Dylan Manuel in the latest edition of The Black & Gold Rewind.

Rashod Dubinion’s 194 yards in Saturday’s win marked the highest single-game rushing total by a Mountaineer since what headlining performance?
